Delph Coronation Mile

30th April 2023

SUNDAY 30TH APRIL.

We had an excellent attendance for the Delph Watersports Centre Coronation Mile on Sunday 30th April. The water temperature was 12.5 degrees Celsius and did not deter the 36 swimmers from completing the one mile distance.

For those at the front, this was most certainly a race, with very fast times being recorded by the fastest swimmers in each of the four categories. For the majority, this was a participation event with personal targets such as completing the course in their own time. Enjoyment was the order of the day. There was a good turnout of family and friends who helped create a positive fun atmosphere. Safety was important and we were fortunate to have Bob Sanders in attendance as Safety support on his kayak. Each swimmer wore a tow float.

The Women's Freestyle event was won by Viv Hanson in 25.50 from Jackie Marsh in second place with 26.15 and Ashleigh Gray in third place with 27.10.

The Women's Breaststroke event was won by Hannah Barton in a time of 32.00 from Tracy Slater in 32.10 and Alison O'Neill in third place with 36.40.

The Men's Freestyle event was won by Andrew O'Neill in a time of 29.55 with Jon Near second in 30.20 and Adam Fielder in third place with 31.08.

The Men's Breaststroke event was won by Chris Barry in a time of 57.50 from Andy Wilkinson in a time of 66.00.

All swimmers enjoyed themselves in the Coronation Mile and are looking forward to participating in our next event, the Delph Watersports Centre Two Mile Swim event on Sunday 18th June.
