DELPH ICE MILE
Sunday 5th February 2023

Our second ‘Delph Ice Mile’ event took place at The Delph Watersports Centre on Sunday 5th February 2023

There was a great atmosphere at the Delph Watersports Centre Ice Mile and we were blessed with sunny weather and a water temperature of 6.8 degrees.

Congratulations to the 23 successful swimmers who received well deserved medals and certificates. The pictures on the certificate shows one of the true greats of long distance swimming, Commander Gerald Forsberg receiving a feed on his successful Loch Lomond swim.

Everyone excelled in the conditions. There was a photo finish in the Women's Freestyle event with Jane Fletcher 1st, Ashleigh Gray 2nd and Sara Smith 3rd. Only two seconds separated all three.

The Men's Freestyle event was won by Jon Hughes from Chris Vagg in front of 3rd placed Andy Godber on his first open water event and completing his longest ever outdoor swim.

The Women's Breaststroke field was headed by Tracy Slater in 1st place, closely followed by Hannah Barton in 2nd, then Denise Rooke in 3rd. 4th place went to Alison Mather who became the first Delph Watersports Centre member to complete two Delph Ice Miles in successive years.

Winner of the Men's Breaststroke was Neil Thompson. No not me, but renowned local Baker Neil Thompson of Mr Thompson's Bakery.

I'm proud of everyone for achieving so much today and look forward to seeing as many of you as possible at our next Delph Watersports Centre event on Sunday 30th April. The event is the Coronation Mile. Enter early! It's a week before the Coronation, so we can enjoy watching the event on television.
