ONE MILE BREASTSTROKE EVENT

15 October 2023

This was our second One Mile Breaststroke Swim Event, our first being in 2022. Weather conditions were ideal for open water swimming with the sun shining brightly throughout the One Mile swim. The water temperature was 16° Celsius. All swimmers were members of Delph Watersports and wore wetsuit and towfloats.

The winner of the Women's Breaststroke event was Ashleigh Gray who successfully defended the title she won last year. Her time of 26.59 was significantly faster than her time from 2022 and was a new record.

Hannah Barton came in a strong second place in a large entry in this category. The closest finish was between Kat Clare in third and Alison Mather in fourth place. There were many newcomers in this event, swimming alongside more experienced swimmers.

Fifth place went to Pauline Cooper with Tracy Haggart in sixth place. Both ladies swam big personal bests today.

The Men's Breaststroke event was won by Clinton Halsall in a new men's record time of 28.43. Newcomer Todd Cameron came second in a good debut time of 37.40 from esteemed Delph Watersports Centre diver Ron Evans in 50.00.

The winner of the inaugural Men's Sidestroke Championship was Mark Haggart in an inaugural record time of 48.42.

A big thank you to my great friend Andy Godber for his unstinting help and encouragement before and during the event.

Bob Sanders always makes a massive contribution to the Delph Watersports Centre at my events by providing on the water safety cover in his kayak.

Thank you to Amy Hurst , Jamie-Leigh and Jess for looking after the catering so well in the cafe.

Thank you to all swimmers, families and spectators for coming to support the event.

Our next event is the Christmas Swim on Sunday 10th December. Let me know ASAP if you're entering!
